Teacher Training in Dunajská Streda – Supporting Volunteering through Education

In March and April 2026, a teacher training course consisting of three sessions was held for teachers of the Hungarian-language Secondary Medical School in Dunajská Streda (Dunaszerdahely), led by trainers of TANDEM, n.o., as part of the Erasmus+ project “Together for Stronger Volunteering”.

What was the aim?

The aim of the training was for teachers to:

  • support their students in volunteering activities more consciously

  • develop their methodological toolkit

  • strengthen students’ active community engagement

The programme was based on the idea that volunteering is not only about helping others but also a learning process in which young people develop key competences.

How did the programme work?

The training consisted of three interconnected sessions:
3 April 2026
8 April 2026
28 April 2026

Participants:

  • learned about the motivational and community-development background of volunteering

  • took part in self-awareness and communication exercises

  • acquired methods that help involve and motivate students

Special emphasis was placed on the teacher’s role as a facilitator: how to create safe, experiential learning situations in which students actively participate and develop.

The programme focused on experiential and non-formal learning methods. Through their own experience, teachers could try out tools that they can later use with their own groups of students.

What were the results?

As a result of the training, participants:

  • gained new methods and practical tools

  • reflect more consciously on their own teaching practice

  • feel more confident about how to motivate their students

According to the feedback, the programme was particularly inspiring thanks to its practice-oriented approach and its supportive, safe atmosphere.

Why does this matter?

The training helped teachers support young people more effectively on their path towards volunteering and active citizenship.

In the long term, this not only supports the development of school communities but also contributes to a more conscious and responsible young generation.

Outlook

According to participants’ feedback, the training filled a real gap and provides a strong foundation for further development. The experience gained will help fine-tune future programmes so that they are even better aligned with the real needs of teachers and students.
