Volunteering Without Borders - Erasmus+ Mobility in Korond
During the Erasmus+ mobility in Korond, young people from Hungary, Slovakia and Transylvania discovered together the values of volunteering, community building and cooperation through a variety of professional and leisure activities. Together with the Harghita County Mountain Rescue Service, participants renewed hiking trails and got to know the work of the Harghita Rescue Dog Association, while making new friends and gaining valuable experience. The three-day mobility proved once again that volunteering is not only about helping others, but is a community-building force that inspires young people to active civic engagement in the long term.

Volunteering Without Borders
- Erasmus+ Mobility in Korond
Young people from Hungary, Slovakia and Transylvania spent three days full of experiences, learning and teamwork together in Korond (Corund), at the picturesque Kalonda Escape campsite. The aim of the mobility, carried out under the Erasmus+ programme, was for participants to discover the values of volunteering, community engagement and international cooperation through personal experience.
From the very first moment of the programme, community building took centre stage. Young people from different countries got to know each other through team-building activities while reflecting together on what volunteering means to them. In creative workshops they built their own “volunteer universes”, in which their ideas, values and visions came together. The joint work not only led to new friendships but also confirmed that the power of community can bring about real change.
One of the most important elements of the mobility was hands-on volunteering. Working together with the experts of the Harghita County Mountain Rescue Service, participants renewed the markings of hiking trails. Through this joint work they experienced first-hand the responsibility and commitment that volunteer service for the community involves, while actively contributing to the safety of hikers.
The demonstration by the Harghita Rescue Dog Association was also a special experience, giving the young people an insight into the everyday work of rescue dogs and their handlers. Participants learned how much preparation, perseverance and dedication rescue work requires, and how volunteering can become one of the most important ways of helping others.
The professional programmes were complemented by many community and leisure activities. Participants hiked to Csiga Hill in Korond, visited the Bear Lake in Sovata, took on the challenges of an adventure park, went horse riding and tried archery, and the evenings ended with conversations around a campfire. These moments further strengthened mutual trust and created memories that will stay with them for a long time.
The three-day mobility proved once again that volunteering is much more than helping others. It means community, opportunities for growth, responsibility and lifelong experiences. The Erasmus+ programme not only gave participants new knowledge but also enriched them with connections and experiences that can play a decisive role in their community engagement in the future.
Thank you to all participants, partners and organisers for making this special mobility possible together!
